What stays on your phone
Everything you scan, your sale and your saved items. Scanning and the tax calculation work offline. Summalo has no accounts and no ads, and it doesn't track you.
What you can share
If you turn on sharing, Summalo sends only three things when you type a local tax rate for a ZIP code: the state, the ZIP code and the rate. Nothing else is sent: no name, no account, no device ID, no exact time. Sharing is off until you switch it on, and you can switch it off any time in Settings. If you teach Summalo where a brand puts the price on its tags, it can share the brand and the position of the price on the tag (for example \"right of MSRP\"). Never the photo, the text on the tag or the price.
What happens to shared rates
The rate is stored with the state, the ZIP code and the day number, and nothing that points to you. Other people see a rate for a ZIP code only when several reports agree. Reports older than about a year are deleted. Because reports aren't linked to you, individual reports can't be traced back or removed.
Your internet address
When Summalo sends or downloads community data, the server sees your internet address, like any website does. To limit abuse, a scrambled (hashed) version is kept for a few minutes. It can't be linked to any report, and the server never stores your internet address with data. Our hosting provider, STRATO (Germany), may keep standard server logs for a short time.
Location
If you tap "Use my location", Summalo uses your approximate location once to suggest the state and city. Apple's location services turn the coordinates into a place name. Summalo doesn't store or send your coordinates.
Camera and photos
The camera and photos are used only to read price tags on your phone. Images are not stored or sent anywhere.
